IPOH: The state government launcher the Self-Help Assistance and Emergency Assistance for Perak-born students for the year 2024 today.
The Chief Minister of Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, officiated the launch event.
Saarani stated that this initiative is specifically provided to alleviate the financial burden of students from less privileged families and those facing unexpected emergencies during their studies at higher education institutions.
“Self-help assistance is provided with the aim of helping to cover expenses throughout the course of studies such as transportation costs, rent, food, printing of learning materials, and so forth.
“Emergency assistance, on the other hand, is provided to help students affected by disasters such as natural disasters, accidents, health issues, theft, and unforeseen circumstances,” he said.
He said this during the launch of the initiative at the Meeting Room of the Perak Chief Minister’s Office here today.
He said that last year, a total of RM2 million was allocated by the State Government for the Perak Student Self-Help and Emergency Assistance Program.
He also mentioned that the State Government had opened applications for Self-Help Assistance twice and had benefitted thousands of students throughout the state.
“Throughout the past year, a total of RM1.82 million was disbursed to 3,451 students for Self-Help Assistance, while Emergency Assistance assisted 31 students with an allocation of RM36,000.
“For the year 2024, the State Government will maintain the existing allocation of RM2 million, and applications will be managed by the Office of the State Executive Councillor for Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports,” he said.
He said that applications for Self-Help Assistance are open in two phases, with the first phase starting today, April 17, 2024, until May 17, 2024, while the second phase is expected to begin in August or September later this year.
“Applications for Emergency Assistance will be open until October 2024.
“All eligible students born in Perak are encouraged to apply online through the official website of the Chairman of the State Committee for Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports of Perak at the link www.eheyns.com.myhttp://www.eheyns.com.my/.
“However, applications are subject to the established terms and conditions,” he said.
