IPOH: The Enforcement Division of the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Perak successfully arrested 38 illegal immigrants at nine separate raid locations in operations of OPS SELERA, OPS SAPU, and OPS MAHIR recently.
Director of Immigration Perak, Mohd Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, said the operation started at 9 am on April 25, 2024, and ended in the morning of April 26, 2024.
He said the operation targeted five food premises, one convenience store, two industrial premises, and one budget hotel.
“The raids were conducted based on monitoring and surveillance conducted by the Enforcement Division of the Perak Immigration Department at all these locations.
“With a team of 20 Immigration Officers, inspections were carried out on 80 foreign nationals and 35 locals.
“A total of 38 foreign nationals were detained for alleged offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Mohd Hezbullah said those arrested consisted of eight male Bangladeshi, six male and four female Indonesians, ten male and two female Myanmarese, four male and one female Chinese, and three male Indians.
“The arrested are aged between 20 and 55 years old.
“All have been arrested for investigation purposes as they are believed to have reasonably committed offenses under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, entering and staying in Malaysia without valid passes.
“Section 15(1)(c) of the same act, namely staying in Malaysia after the expiration of the issued pass, and offenses under Regulation 39(b), Immigration Regulations 1963, namely violating the conditions of the issued pass,” he said.
He said all of them were detained at the Immigration Depot in Ipoh, Perak for investigation and further action.
