Man arrested with 20 packets of narcotic drugs

IPOH: Police arrested a 47-year-old man with a backpack containing 20 packets of suspected heroin with an estimated weight of 9,200 grams yesterday.

According to Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the arrest was carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 1.15 pm in the Pengkalan Jaya area here.

According to them, the drugs valued at RM115,000 were found in the front compartment of the motorcycle ridden by the suspect.

“The urine screening test revealed that the suspect tested positive for morphine.

“The suspect also has a history of past offenses related to drugs and crime.

“The police also took action under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Asset Forfeiture) 1988, where the Perak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department seized cash amounting to RM250,” he said in a media statement today.

Mohd Yusri added that the estimated total value of seized drugs along with confiscated assets is RM115,250.

Furthermore, based on the investigation conducted, drug distribution activity is believed to have been active since early May until now.

“Seized drugs suspected to be for distribution in the local market of Perak.

“The estimated amount of drugs seized could be used by 12,000 drug users,” he said.

According to him, the suspect has been remanded for six days starting from Tuesday until May 19 to assist in the investigation.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
