SUNGKAI: A total of 80 participants, including students and lecturers from Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS), participated in social work activities at the Sungkai Wildlife Conservation Center (PKHL) recently.
In addition, teachers and students from the Orang Asli School Pos Bersih and representatives from the Malaysian Nature Conservation Organization also participated in the activities.
PSAS, in its statement, said the program titled ‘CSR Awareness and Inspiration to Protect the Environment’ was organized by PSAS in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Conservation Organization & Asia Pacific.
“Such programs are important in training participants, especially students, to foster awareness to love animals, respect, empathy, and responsibility towards environmental conservation.
“Furthermore, this awareness can be conveyed to families and communities,” it said.
According to the statement, through the program, participants were also instilled with the spirit of recycling not only in the form of monetary contributions but also in the form of community service to the environment.
“Participants also get to interact with nature, especially natural habitats, and become aware of issues concerning endangered animals in Malaysia.
“Such programs are meaningful in attracting participants to continue contributing to the natural environment and serve as a starting point for students to be prepared for their future careers and lives,” it said.
The statement added that during the program, participants engaged in activities such as cleaning cages, feeding animals, cleaning areas, painting building walls, and clearing clogged drains.
“PKHL Sungkai also carries out breeding of endangered animals such as tapirs, sambar deer, hornbills, and pangolins,” it said.
The opening ceremony of this program was officiated by the Director of PSAS, Mohd Zulkefli Ibrahim.
Also present was the President of the Malaysian Nature Conservation Organization & Asia Pacific, Dr. Santharasekaran Subramaniam.
Meanwhile, during the same program, Santharasekaran presented the Nature Award, namely the Harimau Award, to PSAS.
