IPOH: A married couple were arrested after being suspected of abusing their 5-year-old adopted daughter to death.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said his staff received a police report from the medical officer of Hospital Raja Permaisuri
Bainun (HRPB) at about 9.45am on Monday.
“Police received a police report from a medical officer who received a five-year-old girl who was taken to the red zone emergency ward for resuscitation (CPR) and later confirmed dead.
“Acting on information, the Ipoh district police have gone to the scene of the incident at a house, Jalan Kledang Raya, Taman Malkop, Silibin to conduct further investigations,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday.
Abang Zainal Abidin said that an examination of the victim found bruises all over the body and it was suspected that she had been beaten with a blunt object.
According to him, the results of the autopsy conducted on the same day at 3.30 pm found that the cause of death was due to “Multiple blunt injuries”.
“In addition, there were also lacerations and bruises on the external genital tract (vagina) and anus (anus) of the victim,” he said.
Following that, at about 2.30pm, the police arrested a 27-year-old woman who is the adoptive mother of the victim and a 66-year-old man who is the husband of the victim’s adoptive mother to help with the investigation.
“The remand application was made at 9am on 11 June (yesterday) at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court.
“The investigation of the case is conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the offense of murder with intent,” he said.
He said, in connection with that, the police requested the public who have information about this case to come forward and give evidence to the investigating officer of the case, ASP Norazlina Rais Ahmad on 013-6282176 or any nearby police station to assist in further investigations.
He added that the police take this incident seriously and call on the public to be patient under any circumstances and not to commit any illegal acts.
