IPOH: A total of 54 illegal immigrants (PATI) were detained in raids conducted at 16 residential and business premises around the Kinta district.
The Director of the Perak State Immigration Department (JIM), Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, stated that all of them were detained in Ops Belanja, Sapu, and Selera, which lasted for two days.
He mentioned that those detained included 49 men and five women aged between 22 and 56 years.
“The operations began at 3 PM to 8 PM on Thursday (July 4) and from 12:20 AM to 3:30 AM on Friday (July 5).
“The raids were conducted based on complaints, monitoring, and intelligence carried out by the Intelligence and Operations Unit, JIM Perak at all these locations.
“With the strength of 34 Immigration Officers, 90 foreign nationals were inspected, and 54 of them were detained for reasonably suspected offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said in a press statement here today.
He added that those detained included 18 Bangladeshi, two Nepalese, 14 Myanmar, 13 Indians, four Indonesians two Sri Lankans, and one Pakistani.
“All the foreign nationals were detained at the Ipoh Immigration Depot for investigation and further action according to the legal process under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“Which is entering and being in Malaysia without a valid pass, Section 15(1)(c) of the same act for staying/being in Malaysia after the expiry of a valid pass issued, and offenses under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the conditions of the issued pass,” he said.
