IPOH: Despite not being categorized as a top student, mastery of skills and a desire to excel earned Muhd Amienul Hafiez Azahari, 19, the Golden Hand Award.
The Kuala Terengganu Community College student outperformed other participants at the 2024 Polytechnic and Community College Skills Competition (POLYCCSKILLS) held at Polytechnic Ungku Omar (PUO).
In the competition, he successfully dismantled and assembled a Proton Persona car engine before conducting measurements and starting the engine flawlessly.
He said that completing this challenge within three hours was not easy, amidst fierce competition from opposing teams.
“I may not be a top student, but I strive for success. I practice daily in preparation for competitions. I thank the lecturers who tirelessly guided me,” said the Automotive Technology Certificate student.
The other top awards, Golden Finger, went to Irdina Syahirah Mohamad Fairul Azran from Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic, while Golden Mind was won by Mohd Safwan Habib from Kuching Sarawak Polytechnic.
The Golden Mind, Golden Finger, and Golden Hand awards are the main accolades in POLYCCSKILLS 2024.
A total of 105 institutions, comprising various polytechnics and community colleges, participated in POLYCCSKILLS 2024, involving 780 students across 39 skill areas to compete for 120 medals and three top awards.
Polytechnic Ungku Omar emerged as the Gold Medal winner in the Geomatics field competition.
This competition underscores the high standards of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provided by institutions under the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPKK).
Earlier, the closing ceremony of POLYCCSKILLS 2024 was officiated by Senior Director (Academic) of JPKK, Mohd Noor Shahudin.
