TELUK INTAN: A supermarket here irresponsibly hid and refused to sell 388 kilograms (kg) of subsidised packaged cooking oil.
This action led to a raid by the Perak State Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
According to the Perak State KPDN Director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the raid was carried out by KPDN Teluk Intan enforcement officers on Wednesday.
“This action was based on a public complaint alleging that the seller was hiding cooking oil and refusing to sell it upon request.
To verify the complaint, a test purchase inspection was conducted at the supermarket through Ops Samar.
“During the test purchase, the salesperson claimed that the 1kg packaged cooking oil was out of stock.
“Following this, a team of uniformed enforcement officers entered the premises and inspected the sales area and shelves, but found no stock of the packaged cooking oil.
“Further inspection in the premises’ storage room revealed approximately 388 kg of 1kg packaged cooking oil,” he said in a statement here today.
He added that a stock declaration order under Section 8 of the Supply Control Act 1961 was issued to the premises’ supervisor.
Additionally, he said, the 388 kg of packaged cooking oil found was confiscated for further investigation, with the seizure valued at approximately RM970.
He further stated that the case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
Kamalludin also emphasised that KPDN will not compromise with those found involved in the misuse or syndicate activities of controlled items such as packaged cooking oil and will ensure stricter actions, including prosecution in court.
