RUNGKUP: Two Indonesians were arrested, believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities, and drugs worth RM340,000, were seized in a raid at the Sungai Tiang fishing jetty area here recently.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, said the two suspects, aged 42 and 46, were detained in a raid by the Marine Police Intelligence Unit, Region One, Penang, on July 15 at around 10 p.m.

“An inspection of a fiberglass boat found ten transparent plastic packets containing substances suspected to be Methamphetamine, weighing approximately 10,610 grams and estimated to be worth RM340,000,” he said.

He stated this during a press conference at the Media Room of the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) last Thursday.

“Azizi said that investigations revealed the syndicate is believed to have been active in drug trafficking since the beginning of this year.

“The seized drugs were suspected to be intended for distribution in the international market.

“It is estimated that the amount of drugs seized could be used by approximately 106,100 drug addicts,” he said.

He said that initial urine tests conducted showed that one of the suspects tested positive for Methamphetamine.

“Background checks revealed that neither suspect had prior criminal records.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

He also stated that the two suspects have been remanded for seven days starting from July 16 to July 22 to assist in the investigation.
