SMK Methodist (ACS) Ipoh continues its long tradition of competitive discourse with the participation of their ACS Debating Team in various debate competitions since April this year. Through this, they have managed to rack up a number of notable achievements.
They’ve sharpened their skills, such as through the Friendly Debate with Politeknik Ungku Omar, held on May 11, with ACS being represented by Neerajkumar, Jinendra and Muhd Mukhriz.
Through the Malaysian Interschool Debate 2024 held from May 18 to 19 at Universiti Malaya, ACS Ipoh managed to reach the quarterfinals and ranked among the Top 6 best schools in Malaysia. The speaking members of this achievement were Yeong Ka Man and Bernado Santoz Edwards, where Yeong was recognised as the 5th Best Speaker out of 132 participants.
Most recently, the ACS Debating team also competed at the Northern Region Interschool Debate 2024, which was held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas from June 8 to 9.
The promotion of such clubs are a worthwhile investment of resources by schools such as ACS Ipoh, as the skills gained from debate foster many sought after skills, such as public speaking and critical thinking, which are practical skills required in real world working environments, especially in leadership roles.
