TELUK INTAN: An officer and a police member were injured after being attacked with a machete by a drug addict at a house here on Thursday.

According to Perak Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, Inspector Tie Ngie Sieng sustained a 4 cm long cut on his left hand.

Meanwhile, Detective Corporal Mohd Rasyidi Che Ross suffered a severed tendon in his left wrist and will undergo surgery to repair it.

In addition, the suspect also sustained injuries due to the incident.

Azizi stated that the Hilir Perak District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) received a complaint on Thursday from a family member regarding the suspect’s drug abuse at their home.

“A team of police officers, assisted by the Patrol Car Unit (MPV), went to the suspect’s house on the same day at around 5:40 pm.

“Upon arrival, the 43-year-old suspect tried to prevent the police from entering to conduct an inspection.

“The suspect acted uncontrollably, wielding a machete, and smashed the glass door of his house.

“The police had to cut the padlock on the house because the suspect refused to cooperate despite being persuaded.

“During the arrest process, a struggle ensued between the suspect and the police, resulting in injuries to an officer and a police member,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Azizi added that a search of the house found 84.72 grams of cannabis and 5.54 grams of methamphetamine.

“A preliminary urine test found the suspect positive for methamphetamine.

“The police then took the suspect and the injured officers to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

As a result, the suspect was arrested, and the case is being investigated under Sections 39a(2), 39a(1) & 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Sections 326, 324 & 186 of the Penal Code.
