Two Homes of Hope Launched for Ipoh

DYMM Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zarah Salim, launched the first NCSM-CARITAS HOMES OF HOPE in Ipoh, Perak yesterday.

Assoc. Professor Dr. M. Murallitharan, the managing director of the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), said the two Homes of Hope (HOH), one for children and the other for adults, will provide free accommodation and transport costs for poor cancer patients and their caregivers while they are getting treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh.

Cardinal Sebastian Francis from the Diocesan church spoke about the commitment of Caritas Malaysia, the official arm of the church engaging in charitable projects for the poor. He said the word ‘Caritas’ is the Latin word for Charity.

The Cardinal added that the church had given NCSM the 3-storey block at Kg. Simee in Ipoh for 30 years for them to run the HOH for poor cancer patients.

The launch was attended by about 70 people from the Perak State government, private sector companies and NGOs, including the Family Wellness Club.
