IPOH: Perak police have successfully dismantled an illegal drug lab in Ipoh following a raid on a house in the Buntong area on Wednesday.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, stated that the raid, which took place at approximately 8:25 PM, was carried out by officers from the Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN).
“The raid led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man believed to be involved in drug processing activities after a 15-minute surveillance based on investigations and intelligence gathering.
“During the inspection of the house, police discovered and seized drugs suspected to be Methamphetamine weighing approximately 1,436 grams, Heroin Base weighing around 745 grams, Heroin weighing about 765 grams, Erimin 5 pills weighing approximately 560 grams, Ecstasy pills weighing around 381 grams, suspected Caffeine powder weighing 12,740 grams, and suspected drug-laced juice powder weighing around 1,780 grams,” he said.
He mentioned this during a press conference at the Media Room of the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) today.
Azizi said the total value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM337,683.60.
“Also seized in this operation were chemicals and equipment believed to be used for drug processing,” he added.
He further mentioned that a preliminary urine test on the suspect showed positive results for Methamphetamine.
“Background checks revealed that the suspect has ten previous drug-related offenses and four prior criminal records,” he said.
He added that action is also being taken under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
“JSJN Perak has seized a car, with the estimated value of the seized property being RM125,000.
“The total estimated value of the drugs and property seized is RM462,683.60,” he stated.
According to him, investigations suggest that the syndicate has been actively involved in drug distribution since May of this year.
“The seized drugs were suspected to be distributed around the Perak area.
“It is estimated that the amount of drugs seized could have supplied approximately 42,337 drug addicts,” he noted.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect has been remanded for six days from August 8 to August 13 to assist in the investigation.
