IPOH: A new tactic has been detected for smuggling drugs into prisons, which is to use drones.
The incident occurred yesterday at 11:30 AM when officers from the Malaysian Prison Department discovered a white drone on the roof of Aman Block at Tapah Road Prison.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, stated that the police received a report regarding the incident at 5 PM from a prison staff sergeant.
According to him, upon inspection, the complainant found a laundry bag containing a transparent plastic packet with 122 grams of heroin and two packets with 12.9 grams of syabu (methamphetamine) hanging from the drone.
“Based on initial investigations, the modus operandi used involved flying the drone from outside the prison to deliver the drugs inside.
“This is the first case of its kind that we have received.
“Perak Police takes cases involving drug smuggling activities very seriously. The police will conduct a thorough investigation into the criminals involved in drug smuggling, especially those linked to prisons,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39(1) of the same act.
