IPOH – Pulau Sembilan, a cluster of nine islands known for its rich biodiversity and attractive beaches, recently hosted the Pulau Sembilan Conservation Day (HKPS).
During the event, approximately 100 volunteers, including six representatives from Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh, demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability by raising awareness about the importance of protecting this natural treasure.
Assistant General Manager of Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh, Mohd Najip Ab’llah described the participation as a valuable experience in contributing to environmental sustainability, particularly in preserving marine life.
“We must recognize our responsibilities and actions towards the environment. Seeing the amount of debris collected truly opened our eyes to how we have neglected our duties to the environment.
“This collaborative effort between various government agencies and NGOs has significantly contributed to addressing the critical issue of marine pollution.
“Over 2.2 metric tons of trash, including plastic, glass, clothing, aluminium products, and other waste materials that pose a serious threat to the marine ecosystem, were collected from the island’s shores and surrounding waters,” he said in a press statement.
Also gracing the event with presence was His Royal Highness Raja Di Hilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.
Mohd Najip added that, in addition to the cleanup activities, HKPS also served as a platform to educate the public about the importance of the island’s biodiversity and to foster conservation awareness.
“Participants had the opportunity to learn about the diverse marine life and the threats posed by pollution and climate change.
“For us, participating in the cleanup was not just a community service responsibility but also an embodiment of our ‘Save the Planet’ motto for global well-being,” he said.
