PUO Gains New Technological Insights from South Korea’s Polytechnic

IPOH: Students from Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) have gained valuable knowledge from Seoul Jongsu Campus, South Korea Polytechnic, which visited the Ipoh campus as part of the International Student Mobility Program.

This visit has paved the way for new collaborations in teaching and learning within the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Robotics, involving students from both institutions.

The South Korean delegation arrived on August 13 and was warmly welcomed by the Senior Director (Academic) of the Polytechnic and Community College Education Department, Mohd Noor Shahudin, and PUO Director, Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah.

The program also received support from the industry, specifically the Galaxy Group of Companies.

According to PUO Director, Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah, this international mobility program offers students hands-on exposure and practical training in cutting-edge technologies through the exchange of knowledge and expertise with South Korea Polytechnic.

“Students from both countries have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in these increasingly crucial areas,” he said.

“Politeknik Ungku Omar also received 20 learning kits for Robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT) from South Korea Polytechnic, Seoul Jongsu Campus.

“These kits are intended to assist PUO students in continuing their learning sessions and exploring knowledge through interactive learning approaches,” he added.

The workshops held during the program resulted in two major projects: the implementation of a smart home using AI and IoT technology based on physical computing devices, and the second project, the implementation of a robotic arm using AI and Open-CV technology.

“The strategic synergy and smart partnership between Politeknik Ungku Omar, South Korea Polytechnic, and the industry add significant value to the development of students’ knowledge and skills.

“This prepares them to face the challenges of current and future technological advancements,” said Shamsuri.
