IWFS Asia Pacific Zone President Visits Ipoh for Special Recognition Dinner
The International Wine and Food Society (IWFS) Asia Pacific Zone (APZ) President, Mr. Michael Tamburri, recently made a brief but significant visit to Ipoh. Accompanied by IWFS Kuala Lumpur President Ajeet Ahluwalia, the visit was marked by a special dinner hosted by Past President Ginla Chew.
During the dinner, Mr. Tamburri awarded Long Service Recognition Medallions to Founding Member SeeFoon Chan-Koppen who received the Exceptional Service Award, as well as Past Presidents Ginla Chew and Andrew Soong who received Commendations awards.These honors celebrated their enduring contributions to the society and the world of gastronomy.
SeeFoon Chan-Koppen, a member of this prestigious global organization since the 1980s during her time in Hong Kong, was instrumental in establishing the Ipoh Branch in 1997 at the behest of the then-President Lawrence Teoh (now deceased). Her dedication has been a cornerstone of the branch’s success and growth over the years.
The International Wine & Food Society Ltd., founded in 1933 by André Simon and A.J.A. Symons, is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote a deep appreciation of wine and food, as well as to foster camaraderie among enthusiasts.
With branches in Europe, North America, Africa, Australia and Asia, its members host a series of events throughout the year that have included dinners, wine tastings and food appreciation courses. As of 2021, there are over 130 branches and more than 6,500 members worldwide.
The Ipoh Branch which currently has 48 members, is open to all who share a passion for gastronomy and fine wines and continues to thrive under the stewardship of its dedicated members, contributing to the global legacy of the IWFS.
