BAGAN SERAI: Six individuals, including children, narrowly escaped drowning when the car they were in plunged into a ditch at kilometre 15 along Jalan Selama-Bagan Serai, here yesterday.
The incident was confirmed by Kerian District Police Chief, Superintendent Juna Yusoff, who said it occurred last Saturday at 3:45 p.m. All victims were rescued by members of the public at the scene.
He stated that the victims in the Proton Iriz included two women and four children.
“On Monday, a 35-second video went viral on Facebook, showing a vehicle that had skidded into a ditch.
“Investigations revealed that the car was driven by a woman, with her sister-in-law in the front seat, along with four children.
“The accident happened when the car, travelling from Selama towards Bagan Serai, swerved to avoid a group of monkeys, veered to the right, and crashed.
“It then collided with an electricity pole before falling into the ditch on the right side of the road. All the victims fell into the ditch but were rescued by bystanders who were present at the scene,” he explained on Monday.
Juna added that all victims received outpatient treatment at Parit Buntar Hospital and were discharged the same day.
“On Sunday, August 25, around 11:30 a.m., the driver came to the Kerian District Police Headquarters Traffic Division to lodge a report regarding the accident,” he noted.
The case is being investigated by Sergeant Hairo Ruslan Hassan under the Road Transport Rules (Regulation 10 LN166/59).
