Ipoh – Over 1,000 people participated in the third edition of Keretapi Sarong 2024 Ipoh (KS2024) held today at the Stesen Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) in Ipoh.

The local brand event, marking its eighth edition, was held simultaneously at KL Central and several states across Malaysia under the theme ‘Proud Malaysia’.

Irfan Azhim Zulkifli, Co-Founder of Ipoh Social Club KS2024, said the ‘Proud Malaysia’ theme aims to foster a love for cultural diversity, history, and unity, and bring Malaysians together.

“We are fortunate to collaborate with LOCCO and Ipoh Social Club in making KS2024 a success in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations.

“This event provides an opportunity for visitors to engage with, experience, and appreciate the rich cultural, musical, and traditional heritage we have,” he said in a statement today.

After the gathering at KTM, all participants paraded to Arle House (one of the historic buildings in Ipoh) and Hourglass Coffee for a pop quiz and prize presentation.

Participant Wan Mar Ekmam Mahadi Omar, 36, from Ipoh, expressed his excitement about the lively atmosphere of KS2024, which fosters unity among the diverse community.

“This is my first time participating in KS2024 with my family in Ipoh, and I feel very excited and proud as a Malaysian.

“The event successfully showcases Malaysia’s multi-ethnic identity and harmonious cultural heritage.

“It also has the potential to attract foreign tourists to participate and display Malaysia’s traditional attire.

“However, I hope the organisers can improve the sound system next year, as the ‘joget lambak’ gathering at KTM station was somewhat subdued. A better sound system would enhance the event’s atmosphere,” he added.

Meanwhile, another participant, Wan Warash Fahhami Omar, 43, shared his joy in showcasing traditional Malay attire.

“This event benefits the younger generation by allowing them to witness the uniqueness of traditional attire from various Malaysian communities,” he said.
