IPOH – By 2025, the number of graduates from Politeknik and Kolej Komuniti (POLYCC) is expected to reach 1 million, according to the Director-General of Politeknik and Kolej Komuniti Education, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zahari Ismail.
He revealed that as of 30 June 2024, POLYCC recorded nearly 90,000 enrolments, reflecting the public’s confidence in the TVET education system offered by these institutions.
“The dedication of POLYCC academia has produced high-achieving students at both national and international levels, empowering the development of a resilient and innovative society,” he said in his speech at the Politeknik and Kolej Komuniti Academia Awards (AA POLYCC) held at Impiana Hotel here today.
Currently, POLYCC has over 10,500 academics, and Dr. Zahari hopes that unity among them will continue to strengthen in achieving the mission of producing skilled TVET graduates. He also commended the achievements of POLYCC academia, with over 45% holding Master’s and PhD qualifications.
The third edition of the AA POLYCC, themed “Transforming Academia with AI: Innovative MADANI Society,” underscores the importance of academia adapting to technological advancements, particularly the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching, learning, and research.
According to Dr. Zahari, POLYCC has received a total of RM6 million for academic staff development, with RM3.2 million allocated to the Professional Accreditation Program. The fourth phase of this program is set to run from 25 November 2024 to 27 February 2025, aimed at producing expert lecturers in various fields.
“Digital technology integration is a priority in teaching and learning. Several initiatives will be rolled out starting in 2025, including 4IR Industry4WRD, the Professional Accreditation/Master Trainer Program, and the Accelerated Industrial Attachment for Competency Excellence (AICE) program,” he explained.
