IPOH: A sinkhole has been detected at a three-way junction along Jalan Rapat Jaya, near Warung Seri Timur, a popular spot known for serving some of the best ‘nasi kerabu’ in Ipoh.
This road connects to Persiaran Industri Rapat, an area frequented by heavy vehicles due to the presence of small factories and workshops.
Although two plastic barricades have been placed at the junction as a warning sign, they are deemed insufficient to ensure safety.
It is believed that a drainage concrete structure lies beneath the sinkhole, raising concerns that if repairs are not carried out soon, the road could sustain even more severe damage.
Lorry driver Ahmad Saad Ahmad Ihsan expressed worry that the sinkhole might enlarge, especially during the ongoing rainy season.
“This isn’t a main road, except for those with business in the area or employees at nearby premises.
“But that doesn’t mean this damage should be taken lightly because we don’t know what might happen next,” he explained.
Delivery worker Rahimi Mahmud echoed the concern, urging authorities to address the issue quickly.
He noted that if the sinkhole continues to grow, it could further jeopardize the integrity of the road.
