As Deepavali draws near, hundreds of underprivileged families in Ipoh find themselves facing a festive season without the basic necessities. To bring some joy and relief, 300 families at PPR Harmoni Flats recently received food aid in the form of Muhibbah Deepavali Food Bags. Sponsored by PPB Group Berhad, this initiative was organized by Perak Women for Women (PWW) in collaboration with KRT PPR Taman Harmoni Buntong.

The B40 Indian communities, particularly in Ipoh, have been hard-hit this Deepavali. Many families are struggling to make ends meet due to the recent heavy rains, which have prevented some from going to work. On top of that, the steep rise in food prices—particularly for essential items like rice and cooking oil—has made daily living a challenge. Fresh food and meat are also increasingly expensive, making it difficult for families to prepare for the festive season.

The PWW Baking team, led by Liza Zainudin, prepared the food bags with a variety of festive treats and essentials, including traditional snacks and baked goods. Volunteers from PPB Group Berhad and PWW came together to pack and distribute the food bags, with PPB also adding extra goodies for the children. The event ended with a lucky draw where 40 families won special cookie hampers, bringing even more joy to the recipients.

The event ran smoothly, with the help of the KRT PPR Taman Harmoni Buntong committee, ensuring the distribution process was organized and all families received their food bags in an orderly manner. This effort reflects the strength of community collaboration, as local volunteers and corporate sponsors worked together to support families in need.

While 300 families have benefited from this generous initiative, many others across Ipoh continue to struggle with financial hardship and the effects of rising food costs. These families are still in need of assistance, and the community is urged to continue offering support during this festive period.

There is still time to make a difference. The public is encouraged to donate cookies, groceries, or monetary contributions to bring joy and hope to those who may be unable to celebrate. A simple donation can help ensure that no family is left out of the Deepavali festivities.

Donations can be made at The PWW Shop, 15 Market Street, Ipoh, or via CIMB: 8004882245. Every act of kindness counts. Ipoh, let’s come together and brighten the celebrations for those in need.
