IPOH: The increasingly cracked road in Taman Klebang Baiduri here, which has been worsening for over two years, is causing concern among residents.
The cracked and pockmarked road is located along Jalan Klebang Baiduri 4, adjacent to a children’s playground.
It is understood that the cracks started small but have progressively worsened, raising fears that it could affect the structural integrity of houses in the area, including incidents of subsidence.
A resident representative, Ooi, 59, claimed that numerous complaints have been made to the relevant authorities, including the local council members, developers, and contractors appointed since early last year.
She added that council members in the area have changed several times, but the issue remains unresolved.
However, she claimed that the authorities, including Ipoh City Council (MBI), have stated that the cracked road is not dangerous and that no movement has occurred in the cracks.
Her attempts to get a response from the authorities also hit a dead end, as she was told that no budget had been allocated to repair the road.
“Earlier, the road was only slightly cracked, but it has now spread to other areas and is getting longer.
“After I made a complaint, they patched it up, but the cracks returned.
“The authorities came to inspect the cracked road here, and they told me not to worry because there was no movement.
“Every month, I try to get feedback from the appointed contractor and the council member, but it’s been fruitless. We are worried that this issue will eventually become more serious and lead to bigger subsidence holes.
“My hope is that they repair this road for the safety of the public. There have been many incidents of landslides and sinkholes recently,” she said to Ipoh Echo and Peraktastic.
