IPOH: Some truck drivers have been dishonest, selling diesel fuel to syndicates in order to make easy profits.
This misuse of subsidized diesel was successfully curbed following a raid at a sand mining premises on Jalan Gopeng Batu 3, Batu Gajah.
The operation was the result of public information and a two-week intelligence effort by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Perak.
According to reports, the dishonest truck drivers were suspected of selling the diesel from their company trucks to syndicates at a price of RM2 per liter.
The diesel would be siphoned from their truck tanks using a pump and hose, then transferred into the syndicate’s truck tanks.
The syndicate would then sell the diesel to sand mining companies at RM2.80 per liter for use in their mining machinery.
During the raid, officers found a truck driver transferring diesel using a pump into several containers for use at a sand mining site.
The inspection revealed 1,725 liters of diesel in two 1,000-liter fiber tanks on the truck.
Further checks also found that those involved did not have a permit or license for controlled goods.
Two local men, aged 28 and 41, suspected of being the truck driver and the owner of the premises, were arrested for further investigation.
The estimated value of the seized goods is RM58,577.75.
