TAIPING: Improvements to facilities in Taiping Heritage City are being carried out continuously and are not limited to the Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

For example, in the past two years, infrastructure development has been focused on areas expected to become tourist hotspots.

Taiping Member of Parliament, Wong Kah Woh, said that the more than 140-year-old Taiping public market has been upgraded while retaining its historical elements.

He said the market is expected to become a key attraction for both local and international tourists.

“The Taiping public market has been fully completed and is now just waiting for its official opening.

“A significant allocation has been given to Taiping by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to ensure that all public facilities in this heritage city are well-preserved,” he said.

He said this after officiating the start of the Malaysian Ultra Trail (UTMB) trail run at the Taiping Esplanade field.

When asked about the UTMB trail run, Kah Woh said this world-class event has been held for the past three years.

“This is the first time it is being held in Taiping to introduce Taiping Heritage City to the world.

“This running event has also received support from the state government,” he said.

The UTMB 2024 Taiping event saw more than 3,000 runners from 60 countries, including 2,040 from Malaysia.
