IPOH: Renowned cartoonist Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid, better known as ‘Datuk Lat’, has been further recognized for his contributions to the arts by receiving the prestigious Anugerah Seniman Negara (National Artist Award).
He is the ninth recipient of this award, which was presented during the 2024 National Arts Award ceremony in Kuala Lumpur recently.
The award was conferred by the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Raja Zarith Sofiah.
Lat was granted a cash prize of RM60,000, a certificate, a trophy, and a set of national attire.
He was also awarded the status of Seniman Tamu (Guest Artist) by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), along with incentives to continue his artistic work, and eligibility for first-class medical treatment at government hospitals.
In July of last year, Lat became the first individual from Perak to receive the Seniman Diraja (Royal Artist) title from the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, in recognition of his significant role and contributions to the arts, which have brought international acclaim to the nation.
