PARIT BUNTAR: The state assessment tax will be reviewed after 42 years without any evaluation.

The reassessment method is a mandatory exercise that must be conducted every five years under the Local Government Act.

Perak State Housing and Local Government Committee Member, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, said that the reassessment is important to ensure that the annual property value is more accurate.

“This reassessment is actually more beneficial to property owners and is not intended to raise taxes.

“The reassessment is mandatory because it has not been done for 42 years.

“For example, the land area may not have had any buildings before, but now there are buildings.

“When the reassessment is conducted on the property, it is certain that the property value will be higher compared to before,” she said.

Sandrea explained that the state government understands that the reassessment will result in a significant annual value difference, and efforts will be made to reduce the impact on taxpayers in the state.

“We are considering various factors, including reducing the original rate because the assessment tax is based on the annual value with the tax rate.

“Therefore, we will reduce the existing tax rate to minimize the impact. We are also taking into account the needs of the B40 group,” she added.

She further mentioned that the Kerian District Council is the first local authority in Perak to begin and implement the reassessment exercise.
