IPOH: The Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) responded to a viral video showing a traffic police officer issuing a fine on Jalan Ashman Shah here.
The video, dated November 20, is believed to have been sourced from YouTube, and took place along Jalan Raja Ashman Shah in front of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, in a statement, said that the preliminary investigation found that the video was recorded on November 19 at 9:45 AM by a member of the public who was passing through the area.
“Records show that fines were issued to vehicles for violating Regulation 12 (3) LN 166 / 1959 of the Traffic Rules 1959, which concerns parking within 30 feet of a bus stop.
“Referring to the media statement issued by the Ipoh District Police Chief on October 8, the Ipoh District Police, at their discretion, will not take action against vehicles parked along Jalan Raja Ashman Shah (in front of HRPB) in both directions,” he said.
However, there are exceptions in situations where vehicles are parked in front of bus stops in both directions leading up to the traffic lights on Jalan Raja Ashman Shah.
Secondly, vehicles that are double-parked in both directions along Jalan Raja Ashman Shah.
Thirdly, vehicles parked at the roundabout on Jalan Raja Ashman Shah.
Nonetheless, the Ipoh District Police will continue to enforce traffic laws against road users who commit traffic offenses, particularly if there are complaints about traffic congestion.
Therefore, all road users, especially those in Ipoh, are advised to cooperate with the police and always comply with the law.This is to ensure the safety of all road users and maintain smooth traffic flow in the district.
