The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah graced Fatimah Hospital’s Golden Jubilee Celebration yesterday.
Accompanying him was the Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.
Also present were Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, the Perak Menteri Besar, as well as Dato Michael Cheah, chairman of Fatimah Hospital’s Board of Directors and Dr. Liaw Kok Toon, the hospital’s medical director.
Sultan Nazrin officially launched the celebration and signed a commemorative plaque before touring an exhibition held at the hospital.
During his opening speech, Dr. Liaw noted that Fatimah Hospital provided nearly 30 medical specialties and subspecialties, on top of various surgical services and healthcare facilities.
He highlighted that the hospital had 236 beds with a staffing of 641 from all categories. The hospital has various up-to-date medical assets and are always committed to provide the best healthcare services.
In Dato Cheah’s speech, he noted that the hospital had been officially opened since 197, by the late Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah.
He also noted that the Brothers of Mercy Germany had served in Ipoh and its surroundings since the early 1950s, before the hospital had been built, and that their services had been to provide medical care to the masses. They had committed and dedicated themselves to assisting the poor and sick for more than 20 years before the hospital opened in 1974, which was possible thanks to the generosity, support and assistance from the people of Ipoh, the authorities and the congregation of the Brothers of Mercy in Germany.
