Signage fails to deter trash dumpers in Ipoh

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The unsightly pile of garbage along the road near Dataran Rapat Baru 19 is not a new issue.

It is, in fact, a recurring issue that arises every time the area is cleaned.

Despite the installation of warning signs, they are not enough to deter illegal dumpers.

Whether the offenders are locals or foreigners, the lack of civic awareness continues to result in the area being left dirty and foul-smelling.

This spot is believed to attract illegal dumping due to its location by the roadside and being concealed by dense vegetation.

According to observations from the Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic team, local residents have grown indifferent to the illegal dumping and are frustrated with the irresponsible behavior.

One resident, who wished to be identified as Lenny, claimed many people come to dispose of their waste by vehicle.

“If they are on motorcycles, they just toss the plastic trash bags.

“We don’t dare to confront them, fearing conflicts or unwanted incidents,” he said.

Lenny also suspects that some individuals dump their trash at night to avoid being seen.
