IPOH: Three sectors—tourism, healthcare, and digital—are set to be developed jointly between Ipoh and Medan, Indonesia.
This strategic initiative by the Ipoh Mayor is expected to positively impact the progress of both cities and serve as a global example.
This was stated by Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin during a meeting with Medan’s Mayor, Bobby Nasution, as part of the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) working visit to Medan.
According to Rumaizi, these three sectors are crucial, and Ipoh is already prepared and has begun implementing these agendas, aiming to expand them in collaboration with Medan.
Rumaizi led the MBI delegation to Medan to further strengthen the existing ties between the two regions. The friendship city relationship between Ipoh and Medan has been in place since 2009.
The relationship between the people of Malaysia and Indonesia also broadens opportunities in various fields, especially in tourism, healthcare, and digital sectors.
Ipoh’s advantages include a network of top private hospitals that rival major cities, along with cultural compatibility within its community.
This visit is especially significant in 2025 as Malaysia holds the ASEAN Chair, and MBI chairs one of the committees under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).
During the visit, the delegation also toured popular tourist spots in Medan, including Istana Maimun, Masjid Raya Mashun, and Tanjong A Fie in the city of Medan.
