IPOH: The unique Laksa Kacang by Adik Tidoq, run by 28-year-old Khairul Izwan Awang Mohamed, is gaining increasing attention, especially at carnivals and large events.
With a recipe of over 20 years that was passed down from his late mother, this laksa offers a distinctive twist, including the addition of peanuts that provide a rich and crunchy taste.
According to Khairul Izwan, or Wan as he is affectionately called, his business started small, around his home in Kampung Tanjung Lengkong, Selama. Now, it has expanded to over 10 locations in northern Malaysia.
“This laksa originally comes from my mother’s recipe. I started by selling from my car boot and joining carnivals.
“Now it’s more widely recognized, especially through my interactions with customers on social media,” he said.
Interestingly, one of his pet cats, known as ‘Adik’, has become the main attraction on social media (TikTok).
Adik’s adorable antics, often sleeping in various funny poses, have captured the attention of netizens, which has encouraged many customers to try the peanut laksa he sells.
Wan’s presence at the Jom Santai Klasik Moden carnival, which runs from January 25 to February 2, has drawn a lot of attention.
The carnival features over 80 stalls, and Wan’s peanut laksa stall is one of the main attractions.
“This laksa is different because of the added peanuts. It gives a unique taste that complements the sour, spicy, and sweet flavors of the laksa.
“The idea to add peanuts came from a friend, and customers really love it,” Khairul Izwan added.
Nor Nazira Zaiyan from Teluk Intan, one of the visitors at the carnival, praised the unique taste of the peanut laksa.
“I came from Teluk Intan with my family to try this laksa. It tastes really delicious and is definitely worth it,” she said.
Another visitor, Shahrom Saari from Station 18, also took the time to try the special dish.
“The taste of the peanut laksa is truly one of a kind. My family and I really enjoyed this dish,” he said.
With a creative approach and the use of a traditional recipe, Laksa Kacang by Adik Tidoq is not only popularizing the laksa dish but also opening up opportunities for young entrepreneurs to leverage social media platforms to expand their businesses.
