KUALA KANGSAR: The dishonest act of a truck driver who sold the company’s diesel oil to a syndicate was uncovered after he was detained yesterday.
The Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, said the raid was conducted at a workshop near Talang here.
He said the operation was the result of an investigation conducted by KPDN Perak for a week, around Kuala Kangsar.
“The modus operandi of this syndicate is that this dishonest driver sells the company’s truck diesel oil, where he works, at a price of RM2 per liter to the workshop.
“He does this by siphoning it from the truck’s original tank using a pump and hose into ‘Jerry Can’ (barrels) at the workshop.
“The workshop then sells the oil to other transport trucks at a price of RM2.70 per liter,” he said in a statement here today.
He added that as a result, a 49-year-old truck driver and a 62-year-old man, suspected to be the workshop owner, were detained for further investigation.
“An inspection found an estimated 286 liters of liquid suspected to be diesel oil.
“No permit or license for controlled goods was found at the scene.
“As a result, the suspected diesel, the truck, and 27 barrels were seized for further action. The estimated value of the seizure is RM95,909.48,” he said.
He said the case would be investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
He also urged the public to be the eyes and ears of the authorities to report any information regarding the misappropriation of controlled and subsidized goods.
